Two people have died and five others sustained various injuries following a road accident that occurred on Friday afternoon at Nyale, near Mlangeni Trading Centre in Ntcheu District.
Ntcheu Police Spokesperson Inspector Jacob Khembo identified the deceased as Mbumba Nkhoma, a presenter with Times Group, and George Ishmael Masiyano.
According to Khembo, the accident occurred when a Toyota Ractis saloon carrying four passengers attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
The impact left all occupants of both vehicles injured. They were rushed to Ntcheu District Hospital, where Nkhoma and Masiyano were pronounced dead upon arrival.
The five survivors are receiving treatment at Ntcheu District Hospital. Among the injured is Sergeant Esther Ntandika of Monkey Bay Police Station.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the cause of the accident.
