The Association for Women in Media (AWOME) is deeply saddened by the passing of Brian Banda, who, until his death, served as the Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
In a statement, AWOME Chairperson Dorothy Kachitsa said the organization has lost a media leader who served with passion and integrity.
“Mr. Banda will be remembered as a passionate, dedicated and accomplished media professional who loved his profession and served with distinction throughout his career,” said Kachitsa.
She added that Banda dedicated himself to keeping Malawians informed about events and developments in the country, and that he was a role model to many within the media fraternity.
Kachitsa noted that throughout his career, Banda demonstrated commitment to professionalism, mentorship, and the growth of public broadcasting in Malawi.
“With his passing, the media fraternity has lost a great man whose invaluable contribution to the media industry will be deeply missed and forever remembered,” she said.
AWOME extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, the MBC Board, management and staff, friends, colleagues, and all those who knew and worked with him during this difficult time.
Banda died on Saturday at Mwaiwathu Private Clinic in Blantyre following a short illness.
